Regular attendance is essential for success in school. Encourage your child to come to school daily and on time. When a child is going to be absent or late for school, please call the Kerrydale Safety Phone (703-590-2828) and leave a message. If we do not receive notice that your child is absent or going to be late, an office staff member will make every attempt to notify you that your child is not present.
Upon returning to school, a note should also accompany a child explaining the reason for the absence or tardiness. A note is still needed if you notify the school of your child’s absence/tardy. If the child has 3 or more cumulative absences, a doctor’s note must be given to the school office to excuse the absences. When a child reaches 10 absences for the year, a doctor’s note must accompany every absence after 10 to excuse the absence. Tardies and absences which are not accompanied by a written note will be counted as unexcused. Students with excused absences are allowed two days to make up work missed.
If your child must be out of school for an extended period of time,
you must obtain written approval from the principal. If the child accumulates 15 consecutive absences, the child will be withdrawn. NOTE: Students who have more than one excused tardy per each nine week period will not be eligible to receive perfect attendance awards.
